Quick free access The schedule for heads of state and the members of governments is always a tight one. If they are visiting an embassy, for example, long waiting times should be avoided as much as possible despite the time-intensive security measures at the entrance gate. Yet it is not only VIPs who are affected; each time suppliers and employees enter and leave such a compound, they also have to wait until retractable bollards or security barricades allow them to pass. It comes as no surprise then that a solution that is both secure and fast has long been sought for this area. With the new “Palon” elero has now succeeded in developing an electromechanical linear actuator that also moves heavy security bollards in just seconds.
“The Palon can be extended to a stroke length of 800 mm in a mere four seconds – this is unique for an electrically retractable security bollard,” explains Hartmut Blum, Branch Manager elero Linearantriebstechnik In this respect the new linear actuator has an adjusting force of as much as 1,000 newtons und is available as standard with a stroke length of 400 mm upwards.
In the search for a more environmentally-friendly and less maintenance-intensive alternative to hydraulic drives with retractable barricades many users had switched to electric drives. Yet to date these have not been powerful enough to function at the desired speed with heavy systems. With the Palon elero now has a linear actua-tor that fulfills all these criteria.
Versatile and weather-resistant
The Palon is driven by a compact hollow shaft motor, something which also allows for a very short structural design. The advantage: Compared to conventional linear actuators the Palon does not need to be sunk as far into the ground by a consider-able margin. Thus it is not only interesting for use with high-security barricade sys-tems, but also for securing inner-city areas, car parks and market areas.
As with all electric push rod actuators the Palon is weather-resistant, and not af-fected by heat or dirt. It functions perfectly at temperatures of up to 60 degrees Celsius and higher, for example. As it is exposed to moisture, and in particular from rain, snow and water in the ground, the Palon has been designed to meet the re-quirements of protection class IP 67.
